When to Travel to Tanzania
Best months for Tanzania safaris, the Great Migration, Zanzibar beach time and quieter travel windows.

Tanzania is a year-round destination, but the best month depends on the experience you value most. The long dry season from June to October usually brings comfortable game-drive conditions, thinner vegetation and wildlife gathering around permanent water. It is also a popular period, so well-located camps and domestic flights should be reserved early.
From January to March, the southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains turn green and host the wildebeest calving season. This is an excellent window for predator action, photography and travellers who enjoy dramatic skies. April and May bring the long rains: some remote camps close, roads can be slower and showers are more frequent, but landscapes are lush and selected lodges offer strong value.
The Great Migration has no fixed appointment. Herd movement follows rain and grass. River crossings are most commonly associated with the northern Serengeti from roughly July through October, while calving is generally concentrated in the south from late January into March. Build flexibility into the route instead of planning around a single promised crossing.
Zanzibar is warm throughout the year. June to October and late December to February are popular for beach stays; tides, wind and the exact coast matter as much as the month. Divers, kite-surfers and relaxed beach travellers may prefer different areas.
For balanced weather and fewer visitors, consider late May into June or November into early December. A Goldfinch specialist can match season, budget and travel style to the right parks and coast.
